"The Last of Us" star Pedro Pascal showed his allyship with a Feb. 22 Instagram post in which he captioned a supportive photo with an unequivocal smackdown of transphobic prejudice.
"I can't think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist," Pascal captioned the photo, which showed a sticker declaring that "A world without trans people has never existed and never will."
The post came amid an ongoing attack on the rights of transgender Americans by the Trump administration. The renewed assault seeks to erase transgender people by declaring that only two sexes exist, and people belong to the gender to which they were assigned at birth.
"Earlier this month, the 'Freaky Tales' actor shared a video of late trans activist Cecilia Gentili giving a speech at the New York University Lavender Graduation ceremony for LGBTQ+ college students in May 2023," noted Pink News.
In the video, Gentili encourages her audience to "not allow anyone to tell you that this is not a big deal, or that this is just a culture war, or that trans people are overstating the seriousness of what is going on," Pink News noted.
"I've been a trans person for nearly 50 years," the advocate goes on to say in the clip. "Knowing your identity, who you are, and where you come from is powerful.... Once we know who we are, we cannot be stopped."
"Know who you are," Pink News relayed Pascal captioning his post. "Progress is inevitable."
The rights of transgender youth and those seeking gender confirmation treatment have recently come under such a broad attack that trans Americans are now being issued official documents, such as passports, that do not reflect their gender identity, while trans members of the armed forces have been targeted for separation from the military if they serve openly.
The Trump administration's attacks follow years of GOP-led state legislatures focusing on trans issues and introducing record-shattering numbers of anti-trans bills. 2025 has already seen 584 bills targeting trans Americans introduced across 48 states - despite the trans community being estimated at a minuscule 0.5% of the American population.
Fans celebrated Pascal's supportive words in the post's comments, with one person declaring, "And I don't want to live in a world without them either. ❤️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️" while a second comment cheered, "you tell em king," and another added, "Could his flag get any greener?"
"This would really upset the opposition if they could read," another quipped.
Pascal's sister Lux is transgender, and he has been an unwavering ally of hers and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole.
