Mean Gays Talk the Business of Being Mean (And Hilarious) on Their First Tour
Nicholas Dussault READ TIME: 13 MIN.
The Mean Gays have hit the road. That's right, the internet's favorite queens of mean have taken their delightful brand of bitchy on tour. For over a year now the Atlanta-based duo with a combined social media following of nearly 3 million has invited the cyberworld to join them on their journey. The Mean Gays have gone to a funeral, a baby shower, a real estate showing, a sad party, the North Pole, and a seemingly endless number of places where they read the situation in their trademark breathless, bitchy, judgmental, and wildly hilarious tone.
Witty quips like "you look dehydrated" have become widely quoted and moments like their visit to someone who'd just given birth where they compared the newborn to "those pugs, the ugly ones" have been shared across the internet. And now through October 27, you get the opportunity to check out doyennes of dish in the flesh on their first tour, "Mean Gays Live."
Having watched them perform on their debut date in Boston, EDGE's Robert Nesti said: "The Mean Gays are the freshest and funniest act to appear on the queer comedy circuit in quite some time. They target celebrities and pop culture memes (as they do in their videos), with wicked, scathing wit that befits their name, and do so with such aplomb that it was difficult to believe that they had never appeared on stage together before. Their take on Nicole Kidman's AMC ad is pure genius, as is much of their show. They may not be mean in real life, but certainly play mean on stage."
The duo has three dates remaining on their tour of City Winery venues: October 23 in Atlanta; October 25 in Nashville; and October 27 in Pittsburgh. For ticket information, follow this link.
EDGE had the chance to speak with the Means Gays' alter egos Aaron Goldenberg and Jake Jonez. Luckily, the brains behind the mean girls aren't mean. They're actually delightful.
