Ellen DeGeneres is urging her fans to avoid traveling to Bermuda after the country's governor signed a measure into law in February, replacing same-sex marriage with domestic partnerships.

Gov. John Rankin's decision sparked outrage with critics calling the move an unprecedented rollback of civil rights in the British island territory.

Taking to Twitter this week, DeGeneres informed her 77.1 million followers that Bermuda banned marriage equality, adding she's "canceling my trip."

She also included a link to a Crowd Justice fund to save marriage equality in the country. The fund is looking for £50,000. With 22 more days to go, the fund has earned £24,621.

A lawsuit has been filed to reverse the ban.

"The act is intended to strike a fair balance between two currently irreconcilable groups in Bermuda, by restating that marriage must be between a male and a female while at the same time recognizing and protecting the rights of same-sex couples," Minister of Home Affairs Walton Brown said.
